Thanks to their modular design, R. STAHL’s new explosion-proof 6121 series of floodlights provides users with versatile installation options. If required, the floodlights for zone 1 allow for separate installation of the lamps and the ballast units. This can considerably facilitate maintenance: the connection components remain easily accessible regardless of the placement of the floodlight. Regularly scheduled checks of e.g. insulation and contact resistance can therefore be performed easily even if lamps are installed in hard-to-reach places. As terminal chambers, R. STAHL provides separate explosion-proof housings with Ex d or Ex e ignition protection, thereby covering different requirements in various markets and regions with one product series.
The compact floodlights can be equipped with 150 W, 250 W, or 400 W high-pressure gas discharge lamps (halogen metal halide (HIT) or sodium vapour (HST) lamps). The efficient ballast unit for the series is suitable for both lamp technologies. With a power factor of more than 90%, it already fulfils the European Union’s energy efficiency requirement that will come into effect in 2018. Alternatively, users can equip the E40 lamp sockets with 500 W halogen lamps (QT). In addition to lighting with a symmetrical wide-beam light distribution (85% efficiency), the reflectors also provide narrow-beam spots (87% efficiency). The lamps can be easily exchanged by means of a special opening – suitable materials ensure a long service life even under adverse conditions. Made from robust, seawater-resistant cast aluminium, the systems provide IP66 protection. The floodlights can be operated at a very wide ambient temperature range from -60 °C to +60 °C in hazardous areas with group IIC gases (group IIB gases at temperatures below -20 °C).
